Yin Yang is used to describe how contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world. Opposites exist only in relation to each other i.e. dark/light; male/female; low/high; hot/cold. Complimentary opposites interact to create a greater whole...the balance of nature. Yin is slow, soft, yielding, diffuse, cold, wet and passive. It is associated with water, earth, the moon, femininity and nighttime. Yang is fast, hard, solid, focused, hot, dry and aggressive. It is associated with fire, sky, the sun, masculinity and daytime. A balance of both is desirable.
